The Canowindra is a compact crossbody with plenty of character, combining traditional leatherwork with statement hardware and a beautifully detailed riveted construction.
Crafted from vegetable-tanned leather and left in its natural state, she has been finished with leather balm to provide some protection while still allowing the hide to age and develop its own patina. With time, sunlight, handling and everyday use, the pale natural leather will gradually deepen through honey and caramel tones, becoming entirely individual to the person carrying her.
Traditional hand tooling travels across the front, back, flap and strap detail, complemented by antiqued brass hardware. Individually riveted leather tabs wrap around the sides and base, making the construction itself part of the design.
At the centre sits an oversized leather ring, hand tooled and riveted in place, with a braided leather keeper forming the closure. Her wide adjustable crossbody strap features oversized antiqued brass buckles, adding another statement detail while allowing the length to be adjusted to suit.
The natural hide has deliberately not been disguised. Variations in tone, subtle marks and the changes that develop through use are all part of the character of vegetable-tanned leather and the story this piece will build over time.
