Named after the historic village of Tilba on the South Coast of New South Wales, she takes inspiration from a place known for its beautifully preserved heritage buildings, old-world charm and appreciation for traditional craftsmanship. There is something wonderfully nostalgic about The Tilba, as though she belongs amongst the treasured pieces of another era.
Handcrafted from beautiful vegetable-tanned leather, her rich walnut colour brings warmth and depth to every detail. Intricate floral stamping follows the curves of her rounded silhouette, while individually cut leather panels, carefully finished edges and rows of warm brass rivets give her a distinctive vintage character.
Some of her most beautiful details are found beyond that first glance. Delicately hand-carved feathers decorate her gussets and shoulder strap, with carefully worked textures that bring movement and character to the leather. These thoughtful details are a reflection of the time and patience involved in creating something entirely by hand.
Designed with versatility in mind, The Tilba can be worn comfortably as a shoulder bag or across the body. Her adjustable leather strap allows you to change the way you carry her, making her just as practical for everyday outings as she is beautiful to wear.
Every component has been individually cut, shaped and assembled in my Gloucester studio using traditional riveted construction. Her intentionally unlined interior celebrates the natural strength and beauty of genuine leather, allowing her to soften and develop a beautiful patina with years of use.
Although this silhouette may return to the workbench in the future, this particular combination of walnut-coloured leather, intricate floral tooling, hand-carved feathers and distinctive brass detailing belongs to The Tilba alone.
